My Desktop Icons are not Displaying Correctly

By: Arie Slob

Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode (choose Start > Shut Down and select Restart in MS-DOS Mode). Delete the file shelli~1 file in your \Windows directory, and restart Windows (the ShellIconCache file is hidden, so you'll have to use the command attrib -h shelli~1 first to "unhide" it).

Note: Corrupted icons can also be fixed by using TweakUI, one of Microsoft's PowerToys.
