Microsoft Posts Windows XP Explorer.exe Patch
By: Arie SlobMicrosoft posted a patch for Windows XP, to address a problem in Explorer.exe, where Windows may not respond when you try to open or close a folder by using Windows Explorer. When this occurs, you may be able to restart Explorer.exe to cause Windows Explorer to work correctly again.
According to the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 329692, the supported fix available is only intended to correct the problem described. You should apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this fix.
Well, this is the only real problem I had with Windows XP since day 1 that I installed it. I was disappointed that SP1 did not fix this problem either, so I got the patch, and installed it..... We'll see what happens.
The patch is available from Microsoft's Download site. The update is for both Windows XP Home Edition and Professional, and is 513 KB in size.
This update will also be included in Windows XP Service Pack 2.
