| Microsoft Warning! |
| This is a technical beta release. Before you decide whether to install this software, it is important to understand that the technical beta release does not have the stability of released Microsoft software. You might encounter problems with this release of the software that could possibly result in a loss or destruction of data. Yesterday, Microsoft issued a public beta of Windows Media Player (WMP) 10. WMP10 has a streamlined and sleek new design, enhanced device support including a new feature called Auto Sync which enables the seamless, automatic synchronization of music, video, and even recorded TV and photos to supported portable devices and a choice of online stores, enabling you to discover, download, rent or stream music and video within the Player from a choice of online stores.
Although many of the new Media Player's features will not be available until the release of new hardware later this year, users will be able to browse through new ways of organizing media libraries and take advantage of a considerably simplified interface.
According to Microsoft, the final version of WMP10 should be available this fall. Microsoft also does not expect to make other (interim) beta versions available in the time till the final release.
Windows Media Player 10 is only available for Windows XP, and can be downloaded from the Microsoft [11 MB] Web site. Before downloading you should review the release notes and system requirements.
