This is a "revised" AutoComplete from Internet Explorer 4. Now you can just type a friendly name (no need to start with http://www.) and select your entry from the drop down list.

To disable AutoComplete:

1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options
2. On the Content tab, click AutoComplete
3. Uncheck the option to use AutoComplete for Web addresses
