This week, Microsoft posted a guide "Securing Wireless LANs" which provides Planning, Implementation, Operations and Test guides, as well as additional resources including installation scripts, security templates, monitoring scripts, and implementation planning resources.
The Microsoft guide for Securing Wireless LANs is a prescriptive guide addressing the vulnerabilities of today's wireless networks. This guide provides a reference implementation of certificate services for securing wireless LANs (WLANs), which is suited for organizations of several hundred to many thousands of wireless network users. The reference implementation is derived from Microsoft's own use of PKI for securing WLAN for its 55,000 employees, and best practices learned while aiding customers with their own secure WLANs.
The guide provides full lifecycle guidance for designing, implementing and operating a secure wireless solution built with IEEE 802.1X, EAP — TLS, RADIUS and a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). Business Planners and IT Architects receive a detailed overview of wireless networking risks, vulnerabilities, and the best countermeasures available today. IT Implementers and Operations Managers receive security templates, automation scripts, and step – by – step instructions to deploy and manage the secure wireless implementation.
