Microsoft to add DynaZip Compression Technology to Windows XP

DynaZip Inner Media, Inc., publishers of Zip-compatible data compression toolkits/components, announced last week it has struck a deal with Microsoft Corporation for use of Inner Media's DynaZip™ engine in Microsoft Windows XP.

"We are very pleased to announce that Microsoft has chosen Inner Media's DynaZip technology to provide the compression backbone for their Windows XP Compressed Folder features," says Inner Media President, Neil Rosenberg. "Our products have proven themselves in the marketplace for many years, and this agreement to make DynaZip a part of Microsoft's Windows XP operating system further validates DynaZip's high-performance, reliability and compatibility with the standard PKWare ZIP file format."

It's assumed that this means that DynaZip will be added to the next version of Windows XP (Longhorn), and not to Service Pack 1. Anybody who has worked with the Compressed Folders feature currently in Windows XP will know that DynaZip will probably be an improvement, as the Compressed Folders feature isn't exactly a top performer.
