Microsoft Posts Windows XP Search Companion Patch
By: Arie SlobMicrosoft posted a patch for Windows XP, to address the problem that a corrupted file would prevent the Search Companion to search for files or folders, or to search the Internet.
The error would typically occur after you connect to a Web site, when you may receive the following error message:
A file that is required to run search companion cannot be found. You may need to run setup.
Note that this problem affects only the English-language version of Windows XP.
The update is available from Microsoft's Download site. The update is for both Windows XP Home Edition and Professional, and is 597 KB in size.
This update will also be included in the upcomming Windows XP Service Pack 1.
According to Microsoft Knowledge Base article 319949 the problem may occur again, when you disconnect from the Internet, even if you already resolved the problem. If this happens to you, check out the Microsoft Knowledge Base article listed above for a work-around.
