Microsoft Posts Windows XP Application Compatibility Update (April 10, 2002)
By: Arie SlobMicrosoft has posted the third "Compatibility Update" for Windows XP (applies to both Home Edition & Professional version), which is designed to add compatibility with various consumer-grade software packages.
The update is available from the Windows Update Web site, although I prefer to download my updates from the Corporate Windows Update. This way I can download and save the actual file. Real handy if you have more than 1 system you want to install this to, or if you have to do a reinstall.....
Here's my procedure: After I go to the Corporate Windows Update site, I click Find updates for Microsoft Windows operating systems, then from the scroll menu I choose my Windows version (Home Edition or Professional) and select my language. Next I click Critical Updates and Service Packs, and scroll down to find the listing Windows XP Application Compatibility Update, April 2002, click the Add button, and click the Go to Download Basket. From there I follow the instructions to download the update.

New Application Compatibility Updates are cumulative, meaning that the latest update includes all the updates from the previous update, so there's no need to download older updates if you didn't already.
