Windows Vista: On Track?

Hello Windows users,
This issue of the Windows Newsletter comes after my three week visit to the USA. During this visit I attended the 2005 MVP Global Summit where we got (as expected) loads of information on Microsoft's upcoming new operating system Windows Vista.
By now, most of you will be aware that the "Vista" project has suffered several delays over the previous years, and that Microsoft has committed itself to deliver a shipping product by the end of 2006.
In speaking with several program managers I got away with the feeling that they are on schedule, although they do have their work cut-out for them. Several teams working on Vista haven't had a free weekend in several months!
Right now the teams are hard at work to prepare for Beta 2, which could be released early December, although it might be delayed till January 2006. In the mean time Microsoft will offer a Community Technical Preview (CTP), which is slated to be released around this time (mid-October), and a new build for beta testers.
Microsoft has made several changes to their build processes over the last two years, completely re-engineering their engineering. The new process allows them to produce builds faster (often daily builds are produced now), and the quality of the builds are higher then they used to be in the past. Microsoft has committed itself to provide monthly builds to their beta testers, this way they are confident that more bugs will be found early on in the beta testing process, giving engineers more time to fix them before the release date looms.
In the coming months I will start exploring some of the new features & technologies used in Windows Vista, so keep an eye on the Newsletter!

Install this update to add a Tools tab to the System Configuration Utility (msconfig.exe). The Tools tab will allow further diagnostic tools to be launched from within the System Configuration Utility.
