Microsoft Issues FREE Windows Security Update CD

Hello Windows users,

Windows Security Update CD Microsoft opened a Web site where users can order a Windows Security Update CD. The CD will be shipped to you free of charge.

The CD includes Microsoft critical updates released through October 2003 and information to help you protect your PC. In addition, you will also receive free antivirus and firewall trial software.

The Windows Security Update CD is only available for Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows 98, and Windows 98 Second Edition (SE).

Besides the USA and Canada, the CD is also available for order in the following countries/languages:

Australia (English), Austria (German), Belgium/Luxemborg (French), Belgium/Luxemborg (Dutch), China (Simplified Chinese), Denmark (Danish), Germany (German), India (English), Japan (Japanese), Korea (Korean), Malaysia (English), New Zealand (English), Philippines (English), Singapore (English), Taiwan (Traditional Chinese), Thailand (English), United Kingdom (English), Vietnam (English).

Date of availability for other languages will vary, as of this week, these countries can order: Australia, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, United Kingdom and Vietnam.

United Kingdom residents can use this Web address to order.

According to Microsoft, delivery will take between 2-4 weeks.

Microsoft Issues FREE Security Guidance Kit CD

Microsoft is accepting pre-orders on a free Microsoft Security Guidance Kit CD-ROM with tools, templates, roadmaps and how-to guides in addition to their prescriptive security guidance. The kit is designed to help you implement measures like automating security patch installation and blocking unsafe email attachments to help your organization stay protected.

The Security Guidance Kit CD-ROM is offered as a complement to the Microsoft Security Guidance Center, where you can get technical guidance, tools, training and updates to assist you in planning and managing your organizations security strategy.

The CD is available for United States & Canadian residents, the estimated shipping date is April 2004.

User Profile Hive Cleanup Service

A service to help with slow log off and unreconciled profile caused by profile hive unload problems.

Symptoms of these problems include events in the application event log with source Userenv and event id 1000 where the message text indicates a profile unload problem and the error is "Access is denied" or event id 1517 or 1524.

The service is set to automatically start when the computer boots so you will not need to start it manually.
