Windows XP 64-Bit Edition Free Trial

Hello Windows users,
 This week, Microsoft announced it will offer Windows XP 64-Bit Edition for 64-Bit Extended Systems for a 360 day free trial under the Customer Prieview Program (CPP). The trial is available for download from the Microsoft website, or can be ordered on CD-ROM.
System Requirements:
- PC with an AMD Athlon64 or Opteron processor
- 256MB RAM
- 1.5GB available hard-disk space
- Super VGA (800x600) or higher resolution video card
- CD-ROM or DVD drive
- Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
Important: Windows XP 64-Bit Edition for 64-Bit Extended Systems is only compatible with 64-bit AMD Opteron– or Athlon 64-based computers. It cannot be successfully installed on 64-bit Intel Itanium–based systems.
You will have to register in order to download or order the CD-ROM. The software is only available in English at this time.
On the download page, you will see a link to the Setup file and a Product Key for the software you wish to install. The file will be in ISO format and must be burned to a CD before you can install the software on your computer.

Microsoft has established a private newsgroup where you can discuss technical issues. See the Newsgroup Support page for instructions on how to access this newsgroup, including the credentials required for access.
Upgrading to Later Releases
According to Microsoft, as a Customer Preview Program (CPP) subscriber, you may be entitled to upgrade to future pre-release versions of Windows XP 64-Bit Edition for 64-Bit Extended Systems when they become available. Registered CPP participants who authorize us during the registration process to contact them will be notified when future code is released.
The final version of Windows XP 64-Bit Edition for 64-Bit Extended Systems is not expected untill the second half of this year.

RealPlayer flaws open PCs up to hijackers
RealNetworks, Inc. has recently been made aware of security vulnerabilities that could potentially allow an attacker to run arbitrary code on a user's machine.
The flaws where found by U.K.-based Next-Generation Security Software, and affects RealNetworks' RealOne Player, RealOne Player version 2, RealPlayer 8, RealPlayer 10 Beta, and the company's RealOne Enterprise products.

Windows XP Tip: Customize the Notification Area
The Notification area is a new name for what used to be called the System tray, the area where the clock and various other (active program) icons are displayed.
Not only has the name changed, but the new area provides more meaningful notifications. It also has a mechanism that reduces clutter on the taskbar. Icons that are inactive become hidden. You are informed periodically that icons are inactive, and you can modify this behavior with customization settings, or disable this altogether.

MyDoom (A,B) Worm Removal Tool for Windows XP and Windows 2000
This tool will help to remove the MyDoom.A and My.Doom.B worms from infected Windows XP and Windows 2000 systems. Once executed, the tool automatically checks for infection and removes the worm(s) if found. If a machine is infected with MyDoom.B, the tool will also provide the user with the default version of the "hosts" file and set the "read-only" attribute for that file. This action will allow the user to visit previously-blocked Microsoft and antivirus websites.
