Microsoft Issues Public Windows Media Player 10 Beta

by Arie Slob

Hello Windows users,

Windows Media Player 10 This week, Microsoft issued a public beta of Windows Media Player (WMP) 10. WMP10 has a streamlined and sleek new design, enhanced device support including a new feature called Auto Sync which enables the seamless, automatic synchronization of music, video, and even recorded TV and photos to supported portable devices and a choice of online stores. This enhanced feature set will enable you to discover, download, rent or stream music and video within the Player from a choice of online stores.

Although many of the new Media Player's features will not be available until the release of new hardware later this year, users will be able to browse through new ways of organizing media libraries and take advantage of a considerably simplified interface.

According to Microsoft, the final version of WMP10 should be available this fall. Microsoft also does not expect to make other (interim) beta versions available in the time till the final release.

Warning! This is a technical beta release. This release is not for production use, and Microsoft suggests that you run the software in a test environment or back up your existing data, including music and video files, before you install and run the software on your computer.

Windows Media Player 10 is only available for Windows XP, and can be downloaded from the Microsoft [11 MB] Web site. Before downloading you should review the release notes and system requirements.

More information can be found on the Windows Media Player 10 Technical Beta Web site.
