Update Rollup 1 for Windows XP

Hello Windows users,
 Microsoft has released Update Rollup 1 for Microsoft Windows XP. An update rollup is a cumulative set of hotfixes, security patches, critical updates, and updates that are packaged together for easy deployment. Update Rollup 1 for Windows XP is a single package that includes many previously released critical updates for Windows XP.

- Windows XP Service Pack 1
Download
To download and to install the express-installation version of this update rollup (2.7 MB), visit the Microsoft Windows Update Web site, and then install critical update 826939.
Administrators can download the standard version of this update rollup (9.2 MB) to deploy to multiple Windows XP-based or Windows XP SP1-based computers. The standard package is available from the Microsoft Download Center, from the Microsoft Windows Update Catalog, or by using SUS.

Microsoft Windows Security Bulletin Summary for October, 2003
This month, Microsoft started with their new monthly notification schedule for security vulnerabilities. This means that only once a month Microsoft will publish a list of new vulnerabilities, as opposed to the old regime, where vulnerabilities where announced as soon as a patch was available.
This new scheme was put in place to make it easier for system administrators and end users alike, who will be able to get a number of patches at once, and only once a month.
Included in this advisory are updates for five newly discovered vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows. These vulnerabilities, broken down by severity are:

Apple Launches iTunes for Windows
This week, Apple® launched the second generation of its revolutionary iTunes® Music Store for both Mac® and Windows users. The new iTunes Music Store offers Windows users the same online music store that Mac users love—with the same music catalog, the same personal use rights and the same 99 cents-per-song pricing. Since its launch six months ago, music fans have purchased and downloaded more than 13 million songs from the iTunes Music Store, making it the number one download music service in the world. Windows XP SP2 to incorporate Longhorn Security
According to sources close to Microsoft, the company is currently working on back porting several security technologies it had planned for it's next OS (currently code-named Longhorn) to Windows XP. This seems to be the main reason for the delay to Windows XP SP2.
The new security features include an updated version of the Internet Connection Firewall (ICF), which will have outbound scanning added. Other features are currently only found in Microsoft's enterprise server product Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA)
Server 2000.
