Office XP Service Pack 2

Hello Windows users,

Office XP This week, Microsoft released the second Service Pack for Office XP. This service pack promises to fix a number of bugs and also contains security enhancements.

Microsoft suggest to use the Office Product Updates Web site, which will detect your Office installation, prompt you to install exactly what you need to be fully updated, to minimize the time required to download this update. But you can also download [14.7 MB] the full SP-2 client update. Before installing, you need to make sure that you have installed Office XP Service Pack 1.

Office XP Service Pack 2 can also be ordered on CD from the Microsoft Office Web site.

You can find more information on Office XP Service Pack 2, including a list of fixes, from the Overview of the Office XP Service Pack 2 Web page. Administrators can use several ways to roll out SP2 in their organization, more information can be found on the Office XP Web site.

According to Microsoft, any public updates released after Office XP SP2 will require the installation of SP2.

Microsoft Security

August Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer

Microsoft has posted a (cumulative) patch for Internet Explorer that fixes all previously discussed security vulnerabilities affecting IE 5.01, 5.5 and IE 6. In addition, it eliminates six newly discovered vulnerabilities.

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0

Buffer Overrun in TSAC ActiveX Control Could Allow Code Execution

Microsoft released a patch for Microsoft Terminal Services Advanced Client (TSAC) ActiveX control, which can be installed on any Windows system. The downloadable ActiveX control provides nearly the same functionality as the full Terminal Services Client, but is designed to deliver this functionality over the Web.

Unchecked Buffer in Network Share Provider Can Lead to Denial of Service

Microsoft released a patch for Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP to fix unchecked buffer in the Server Messenger Block (SBS) protocol.

  • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, Server and Terminal Sever Edition
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, Server and Advanced Server
