Microsoft: Java support in WinXP SP1
by Arie Slob
Hello Windows users,
According to several reports, Microsoft will add their old (ver 1.1.4) Java Virtual Machine (JVM) to Service Pack 1 (SP1) of Windows XP, reversing the decision it made when it brought Windows XP to the market, to not include Java support in the OS.
But Microsoft also hinted that it would remove Java from Windows again, as soon as 2004. This will probably not be a problem, since after January 1, 2004, PC makers will be able to include any Java version they whish with Windows XP based systems.
Sun Microsystems regretted that Microsoft insisted in using their 1997 version of the JVM, and noted that consumers can download the latest version from their Web site.
Windows XP SP1 is scheduled for release late this summer.
