Microsoft: Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer

by Arie Slob

Hello Windows users,

Microsoft Internet Explorer This week, Microsoft posted a cumulative patch for Internet Explorer that fixes all(?) previously discussed security vulnerabilities affecting Internet Explorer 5.01, 5.5 and 6. In addition, it eliminates six newly discovered vulnerabilities.

For more information on the patch, see this alert.

The patch is available in 26 local languages, and ranges in size from 1.74MB for the Internet Explorer 5.01 version to 2.47MB for the Internet Explorer 5.5 version.

If you are running any other version of Internet Explorer you should seriously consider upgrading to Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2, Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 2, or Internet Explorer 6

Although Microsoft claims that "the update eliminates all known security vulnerabilities", there are others who disagree with that statement. Software engineers Tom Gilder and Thor Larholm have documented some vulnerabilities that are still not patched on their Web site. Again, my October 2000 work-around titled "How to surf the Internet more safely with Internet Explorer" takes care of the 2 unpatched vulnerabilities.....

TradeTrakker

"I wanted to thank you for TradeTrakker... this great program has helped me make a ton of money in the recent market ups and downs. I keep a close watch on my stocks and mutual funds, setting alerts to signal me when a stock reaches a buy or sell price. Then I just pull a realtime quote or two while I link over to my trading page at E-Trade and bingo, another ten grand :-)" -- Jason Evans, USA
