Microsoft Releases Update for Outlook Express

by Arie Slob

Hello Windows users,

Outlook Express At the end of October, Microsoft quietly released a Cumulative Update for Outlook Express Service Pack 1 (SP1). The Cumulative Update for Outlook Express 6.0 SP-1 contains fixes and enhancements to Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0 Service Pack 1 (SP-1). The Cumulative Update for Outlook Express 6.0 SP-1 also gets rid of all previously addressed security vulnerabilities that affect Outlook Express 6.0.

This update applies to Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0 for Windows 98, ME, 2000, NT 4.0 and XP, but can only be installed after installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (SP-1). You should also note that after you install the Cumulative Update for Outlook Express 6.0 SP-1, you cannot remove it

The patch is available in 24 localized (language) versions from the Internet Explorer Web site, and is just under 2 MB. To determine whether the Cumulative Update for Outlook Express 6.0 SP-1 is (already) installed, start Microsoft Outlook Express, click Help > About. When the Cumulative Update for Outlook Express 6.0 SP-1 is installed, you receive a dialog box with the version number 6.00.2800.1123.

This Cumulative Update fixes a number of problems, one of which I reported on a few weeks ago: Outlook Express will no longer allow you to switch identities after installing Windows XP Service Pack 1 (or Internet Explorer 6 SP1). For a full list of fixes, see the article Microsoft Releases Cumulative Update for Outlook Express 6.0 SP-1 on the Windows-Help.NET Web site.

"GhostSurf is extremely easy to use. Everything worked smooth as glass. The ability to fine tune the filters 'on the fly' made it possible to change privacy settings as I surfed. Great product!"

Microsoft Posts Windows XP Explorer.exe Patch

Microsoft posted a patch for Windows XP, to address a problem in Explorer.exe, where Windows may not respond when you try to open or close a folder by using Windows Explorer. Well, this is the only real problem I had with Windows XP since day 1 that I installed it. I was disappointed that SP1 did not fix this problem either, so I got the patch, and installed it... so far so good!
