  Review: Windows XP Beta 2

by Arie Slob

Hello Windows users,

Windows XP It has taken me some time, but I have just completed a review of Windows XP, the next version of windows that is going to replace all those different windows versions currently in use (windows 98, Me, NT & 2000).

Obviously the space in this newsletter is way to limited to reprint the entire article here, so I would suggest that if you have any interest in Windows XP (and maybe even if you think you have not!), you should check out the link at the bottom of this article, and read the review.

There are plenty of screen-shots to go with the writing, so you can see for yourself (although there is nothing that beats the "hands-on" experience).

I must say that I'm impressed! Now this is an OS that I would want! Windows XP is different. It contains many new features, and has numerous options to tweak (although sometimes hard to find), and it seems to work very well.

Not that there are no problems. There are still some inconsistencies. For example, Outlook Express didn't want to remember that it should open on my secondary monitor (works in Windows 98/2000). I was also unable to get a fresh installation to detect neither my ADSL connection, nor the 3COM (USR) 56K modem. I would expect these things to be fixed when Microsoft moves forward, but overall, I'm impressed, and looking forward for the release in October!

DU Meter

"I just had to tell you about DU Meter, this great little utility that monitors my new DSL connection 24/7. A quick glance always tells me if a download is finished, stuck, or still in progress, and if my connection is working right. My desktop just wouldn't be the same without it!"
